From the "Grunge/early Alternative Rock genre," who has had the most notable success as an individual?

R.e.m. would be included even though they were big in the eighties as well, however G n' R would not because they are more "hard rock" vs. "alternative." I realize Eddie Vedder would land on top of many lists so plz don't answer Eddie Vedder... he is the exception. Just think "early nineties" and the plethora of grunge/alternative bands that came out of that era. I know the answers will likely vary, but if you can convince me your right about your choice and tell me why that individual is in your mind "most successful" and has persevered like no one else,..10 Points for you! I already know who my choice is, but I can also think of a handful of individuals who would be very strong contenders. You don't have to change my mind, just tell me why your performer (individual from any grunge/alternative band), has had (in your opinion) the most notable success up to this day.
